W32/Bagz.F Worm

 Information about the W32/Bagz.F Worm:

W32/Bagz.F is an email worm. The worm will infect Windows systems and spreads through email.

The infected email carries a spoofed 'From' address picked up randomly from the infected system.

The subject of the infected email will be any one of the following:

Upon execution of the attachment, the worm copies itself as sqlssl.doc .exe, sysinfo32.exe and trace32.exe in the Windows System folder.

It alters the windows registry at the following location to load itself during next startup:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services

When the worm is loaded, a window is displayed with the name Windows Secure SSL with the description:

This service implements the secure hypertext transfer protocol (HTTPS) for the HTTP service.

The worm alters the HOSTS file to prevent access to some websites.

To propagate itself, the worm scans the following extensions and collects the available email addresses from the infected system:

txt
tbi
tbb
htm
dbx

The worm sends a copy of itself to all the collected email addresses using its own SMTP engine.

This worm first appeared on 2nd November, 2004.
