VBS/Staple Worm

 Information about the VBS/Staple worm:

VBS/Staple is an email worm that is created using the VBScript. VBS/Staple will infect Windows 98 and Windows 2000 systems. Windows 95 and Windows NT users also can be affected if the Visual Basic scripting is enabled.

The worm comes through an email attachment with the message having the title

RE:Injustice

and the body of the mail will be

Dear <Username>;
Did you send the attached message, I was not expecting this from you !

The infected mail carries an attachment called INJUSTICE.TXT.VBS. Executing the attachment launches the worm and displays a message box. After this it copies itself to WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. It also tries to open some web links through the browser. It mails itself to first 50 addresses in the address book and also mails to some fixed Email addresses.

It modifies registry at the following location:

HKEY_USERS\.Default\Software\Microsoft\WAB

VBS/Staple worm first appeared in March 2001.
