Winext Worm
Winext is an email worm that infects Windows 95/98 and Windows NT/2000 systems. This arrives as a reply to your mail with an attachment called TRYIT.EXE. The body of the message can be Hi, See you soon Salut. A+. A bientot J'ai bien retu ton message, je m'en occupe rapidement. En attendant, regardes le fichier joint. When attachment is executed it will copy itself as WINEXT.EXE to Windows\System (Under Windows 95/98) and to Windows\System32 (Under Windows NT) folder. It also creates a file called WINEXT.DAT. It alters registry to load during the next Windows startup. Once in an hour it checks for unread messages in the Inbox of MS-Outlook and replies to them with an infected attached file called TRYIT.EXE. The worm stores information in WINEXT.DAT to avoid emailing to the same email ID more than once. The Winext worm first appeared in February 2000.
This worm is also known as TryIt, I-WORM.TRYIT.
